LCRC Users,
As part of our ongoing commitment to protecting LCRC and its data, we will be requiring Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for login starting on August 28, 2024. This change is designed to provide an additional layer of security and ensure that our systems remain safe from unauthorized access.
What This Means for You:
- You will be prompted to authenticate your login with Duo MFA in addition to your regular Argonne username and password on the LCRC accounts webpage.
- You will be prompted to authenticate your login with Duo MFA in addition to your SSH Key Pair when accessing LCRC clusters.
- This will require a second form of verification when logging in to either of the above via a Duo Push on a Smartphone or Tablet.
Why We’re Implementing This:
- Argonne is adding an additional requirement for MFA to LCRC systems.
- MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
- It is an essential step in protecting data and maintaining the security of LCRC clusters.
Next Steps:
- We will begin enabling Duo setup for LCRC users on August 19, 2024. All LCRC users must login to the LCRC accounts page (https://accounts.lcrc.anl.gov) and will be required to configure Duo at that time. We have created a simple instruction set that will help you get configured for Duo starting on the 19th. Please see: https://docs.lcrc.anl.gov/account-project-management/mfa/.
- After a 10-day registration period, we will be enabling Duo on LCRC clusters starting on August 28, 2024, which will include a maintenance window on the LCRC login nodes. If you have not registered for Duo by the 28th, you will not be able to login to LCRC clusters.
- The LCRC user docs will be updated once we are closer to our launch date to assist you in this transition.
We understand that this change may require some adjustment, and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding. Should you have any questions, need assistance during the setup process, or do not have a compatible Smartphone/Tablet, please send us an email at support@lcrc.anl.gov.
Thanks,
LCRC Support Team
